Serving warm soup and bread on a wintery Tuesday evening appealed to Mary Lane and Meaghan Fitzgerald as a way to draw attention to two great causes. Their upcoming Soup & Bread Forest Park events are set for 5:30 to 8 pm on Feb 3 at Skrine Chops, 7230 Madison Street, Forest Park, and February 10 and 24, and March 3 at Old School Tavern, 201 Des Plaines Avenue, Forest Park.
“It’s a chance for people to gather and enjoy a warming bowl of soup,” says Mary Lane. There are usually six types of soup, served by volunteers who are friends of Lane and Fitzgerald. Rose Szurko’s talented trio provides music. It’s the third year for these cozy gatherings, sponsored by Forest Park National Bank, Szurko Trio, and Lane Custom Framing.
Guests are invited to pay what they can by slipping a donation into boxes designated for Hephzibah Children’s Association and the Forest Park Food Pantry. Diners can also order from the regular restaurant menus during the events.
