OPRF Huskie Helpers Celebrate at Hephzibah Home

The OPRF Huskie Helpers hosted an annual celebration of the end of the school year for the children at Hephzibah Home. For years this wonderful group of high school volunteers from Oak Park River Forest High School has been organizing this event for the children residing at the home, and the anticipation each year for this day is tremendous. The Huskie Helpers plan the entire event themselves from start to finish and they never disappoint.

This year, the celebration was pirate themed and included games like pin the patch on the parrot, shark ring toss and pirate cornhole. The kids loved the treasure hunt where the Huskies hid 400 gold coins in the backyard playground and garden for the kids to find to exchange for fun prizes. Other activities included pirate hat and patch decorating, face painting and t-shirt design that allowed the kids to draw their own treasure map on custom shirts.

After the children enjoyed a pizza lunch they were treated by a visit from Alanna the Mermaid who came with her own giant shell. She held a dance party led by her helper Tiny the Pirate. The kids danced, laughed and were given an afternoon of carefree fun where they could be themselves and celebrate the end of the school year. It goes without saying the kids had a blast!

The OPRF Huskie Helpers have big hearts and share a commitment to helping children in need. Throughout the year these teens selflessly give their time and energy creating one-of-a-kind experiences for the children at Hephzibah Home. The kids relish their time with the Huskie Helpers and we are so grateful for their efforts!
